Did anyone else notice that when Art was anouncing the line-up for San Diego, he pronounced Jean-Sebastian Roy's name ROY instead of WAH? I got a chuckle out of that. He said it right the rest of the broadcast though.

Yeah, I noticed the Roy/Wah thing and the LanINovich as well. The nimrods doing the live webcast couldn't get LanINovich right either. Maybe Laninovich should spell it out for them on his entry form like we have and maybe put it on his jersey that way too---LanINovich

Say it Art,Terry and Jim ---LanINovich, all together now --LanINovich , one more time,-- LanINovich. Any questions?

Bring on Larry Naston........or even Dave Despain. Could be worse, could have monotone Bob Varsha..........

I think we just got it! :p But I don't think they will ever make a TV movie about Art Eckman. And hopefully, SX does not get that kind of controversy, obviously, or Art could be out and I like him. He just gets a little excited at times, but that is good.:) DB always calms him down and tells a good story about the old days.;)

Not to jump to their defense, but as far as Billy's name goes, it is always pronounced Lan-uh-vich here locally where he's from and by friends of his.

I'm sure that it is a tough job to announce the races. Eckman does a good job.

Really MXdad? Maybe he's just so used to hearing everone skip over the "in" that he just goes with it. Maybe he can get an interview and set us all straight.

It is easy to be a critic on this side of the picture tube.............

During the race said, as someone was being passed in the whoops, he artisticaly discribed it as 'he's hippity hopping by'! That is the 4th time I've have heard him say that. The first time was when Yogi past McGrath in the whoops a couple of years ago.

I cann't figure out if he is doing to much crack or to much 'Ensure'. But he is still better than the ABC guy.

Hey Osheen:
Yeah, I was surprised when I first saw how his name is spelled! We'd been watching him in amateur races here for a couple of years and he was always announced without the IN. A good friend who coached him for years and is a good friend of his dad's always pronounced it Lan-uh-vich too. Oh well, hopefully he'll start getting podiums and maybe Jamie will ask him! He's a really nice kid (and fast too!) so I hope he does well.

Re: JS Roy (pronunciation trivia)

has anybody heard JSRoy himself pronounce it WAH?.... if he did/does, it is not the standard French pronunciation....more like RUAH! but then, the French Canadians do deviate heavily from the French French.....

just my 2 centimes....

I also get the occaisional chuckle form Eckman and co., but after the ABC coverage I guess it could be a lot worse. At least it's better than the bad old days when we had to wait six months for delayed coverage of the USGP at CArlsbad. :o

I shall find out this year as I will be the race announcer for two of the race tracks here in Missouri.

Another one for ya...

Not sure if this was Echman or not - but they screw up "THAIN" an awful lot too. It's supposed to be pronounced "TAIN" (no "h" sound) although I have to admit.... I slip and say "THAIN" once in a while too (it just sounds better?) :)

Sweet. You oughta skip the traditional crapola and do some really exciting stuff, like make up some gay nickname for each rider like "Joe The Poofter Smith", or "Tim The Hole Jones". And for all the slow pokes you can call them "the rocket" or "lightning". Then, when someone falls you can yell at him "Get up, Sally!" See how long they let you go before ripping the mike out of your hands. And bring a tape recorder, okay?

That is a darn good idea! I might try that!

<Announcer voice on>
......."And bringing up the rear is Big Lou Holt! He is actually a fast rider but when asked why he is always in the back of the pack Lou replied, 'I like it in the rear"

The Poofter......I will be laughing at that one all day!
