.... remember Dirtweek '01??... OT did a very good job, not having always accurate or complete names and assisting Okie with the scoring while cracking funnies .... may be we'll send some of that video to ESPN for consideration...
If Eckman ever was replaced, who would blurt out every 6-8 seconds: "and they're BAR-to-BAR..."
I dunno, announcing is a tough job, but c'mon other sports have very talented personalities behind the mic and they can keep up and be accurate all the time.
Pokie, you may be right about the ruah bit, I am sure when they interview Roy, we will hear, "Yes when I wace, I twy, weally waelly hawd, vewy hawd , call me WAH " ....... bwahahahah-wah - must be a Fwench-Candian fing ! :silly:
What bugs me is that Art Eckman always adds an "ie" or "y" to the end of everyones name! He calls Larry Ward, "Wardy" and Mike Brown, "Brownie". He has a few more that elude me at the moment, but what's up with that?
Art , bad? Just pull out any tapes from the early days with Larry Huffman and you'll think Art is a genious......."Playing those whoops like a strovarious" or "He's on him like a dogs' teeth on a mailman's leg" "Tough as a two dollar steak" " shoulders as wide as a football linebacker" oh the horror of it I for one amd thankful for Art, Davey and David.
does anyone remember when huffman would say "he's on him like russian radiation" just around the time after chernoble melted. or "he slid by him like a snake oil salesman in the night". there are to many to mention.
I have been watching for some time now and agree that Art should be sent to some other ESPN sport, you know like the spelling bee, billiards, etc... slow action where he can keep up. He doesn't even know the riders names half the time, for instance Jeff Albertyn, Greg Emig, John Emig, what a bafoon. Make an effort and if your not interested in this sport you should'nt be announcing it in the first place. If it wasn't for David Bailey and the race sounds I would mute the TV. I need a device that just removes his voice from the race as he ads nothing to the broadcast. Just my opinion.
As bad as it may seem its still a lot better than the old days of the USGP at Carlsbad. Jim Lampley and Sam Posey, now those two were truly an unclassy act. Does anyone remember when Lampley took a course at Gary Baileys MX school. I got it on tape and pull it out sometimes just for a good laugh.
