I decided to put them on and ride with them. The boots help hold it flat against the shin, so that's a plus. I rode for about an hour. I can't help but feel really 'wide' when sitting on the machine. Feels like your knees are about 5 feet apart, especially when you get up on the tank.
Felt really awkward, but I suspect you get used to it. I am having trouble with getting my foot to the brake lever now. Between the cell and the boot, to get the leg in to use the brake lever, I almost have to pivot the hip. There were times I did indeed forget I had them on, but only when I was really concentrating on something that could hurt me if I screwed it up. I trimmed some padding as per Brads instructions, that helped a bit.
I'm wearing tech-8's with the braces, and top 2 straps are pulled all the way out, but I can still get them to latch. I think that helped straighten the lower brace so it wasn't so much one pressure point, but it was spread out further and over a bigger area, so there was less discomfort.
The laces are loose on the calf adjustment, but the elastic is stretched way tight, probably tighter than they would be if I had pulled the elastic tight.
just some observations until we put some new parts on them.
I will say that I felt safer, mentally, knowing they were there. My legs aren't hurt, and I want to keep it that way. I felt faster and more secure, there's a lot to be said for 'peace of mind'.
