Backfiring

Ok Guys, sorry this is a bit off topic, but I have a RGV250 2 stroke road bike that I'm doing up. It was running ok'ish until I cleaned the re-oiled air filter and re-packed the tailpipe.

Now it starts ok but backfires really badly. You cannot rev it at all cos is backfires and dies.

Have I done something stupid like re-pack the tailpipe too tightly or is it something else?

Packing the silencer too tightly would not cause the bike to backfire. Most likely you have overoiled your filter and gummed up your carbs and/or fouled your spark plug(s)? I would check your carbs out and clean them thouroughly and install fresh plugs and give it a try.

When I had my 2000 CR 125 it did the same thing! It turned out that my reeds were all cracked and frayed.

Make sure the timing wasn't thrown off too, that would also cause you to not be able to rev high w/backfiring..
