What is the best oil for my crf450r? Tranny and motor. Can the same oil be used in both? Some people say yes, some no.
What's the deal?

THe best is probably Mobil 1 MX4T but... it is pricey.

I know some say don't do it.. but... I have been running Mobil 1 15w50 in both sides since the second oil chnage and had no problems. Yup it is the new stuff with "super syn".

There is a special new oil made just for the Honda CRF, it is specily designed for hard riding conditions and the Honda CRF Hi compression 4 stroke bike. It is an exclusive oil only available to people with connections. It is a synthetic blend of performance enhancing compounds that makes your bike faster and is almost 1/2 as heavey as regular oil to help keep your bike light. Honda uses this oil in there bikes when weighing them and that is on of the reasons they are so light in Japan, Helium in the tires, frame, fuel tank, ect is another reason,,,,, I have access to this special oil and can send it to you but it is very pricey $$$$$$$ dont be surprised when it comes if it is in a sealed silver jug that looks like Mobil 1 Synthetic 15W 50, thats just a cover so as people dont get suspecious.
Did I have you going there for a minute???? LOL.

I run Red Line Shockproof gear oil (blue label) in the tranny. I have used it in all of the bikes that I have had and it seems to hold up well to abuse. I just started (after break in) running Red Line 10-40 in the engine will go to the 20-50 in summer. Both are pure sythetic but are about 8.00 per quart. How much is the Mobil?

For real I get my Mobil 1 full synth at walmart in the big (Silver) jug 2 or 2.5 Gallons??? for like $19. A big jug last a LONG time in the bike, but hey, I usally change it every 7 to 10 hours or every two rides and I dont get out nearly as much as I would like to,,,,.

15W50 is NOT a good choice for cold weather. You'd be better served with a lighter grade of oil.
