Hey,

I've been recently starting to get into fmx with my friends dads xr250(simple stuff of course).

I want to get my own bike and was thinking of a 250 2stroke, but my uncle who is semi pro said that 4 stroke would be better for me because im more used to it. He recomended a YZ250F because he said they are very tough and are good performance wise. Is this a good choice, if not what is another good bike to get.

Keep in mind i have been riding for a year and a half and am 17 years old at 6 foot 180 pounds.

Thanks

The big time freestyle guys are all using 250 2strokes. The 250F is a fun bike too but not as much power. either way is a good choice but the 250F is ganna be way more maintainance. and rebuilds are ganna cost alot more. hope this helps.

if you can handle the 250 2T then get that. you want as much power as you can get to throw you into the air. also i would stay away from the 4T because of the compression braking. it can cause some problems on the landings

Fuzzball is right, 4 strokes aren't as easily flicked around as a 2t. The rotating mass in the engine (think of holding the axle of a bicycle wheel while it's spinning) which causes resistance to movement is greater in a 4t. The compression braking is also not good for trick jumping.

A 125 is more peaky with a much narrower power band.

Just wondering, but is that XR250 your only experience? I'm not saying it can't be done but FMX is way harder than the pros make it look.

how high of a jump are we talking cause not too many people can hit those giant freestyle ramps, crash, then get back up.

Right! You probly won't get right back up, if at all, after crashing off a freestyle ramp with a CR250.
