read the book first, or at least watch "blackhawk down, the real story" on the hist channel. i went to see it with the wife,(good) and a buddy and his girlfriend (bad) last fri night. the movie was pretty accurate, but being a 2 hour movie wasn't able to cover everything that happend. there were so many incredible acts that the only way to get the full effect is to read the book.if you see the movie and think"wow, that was wild' be advised, the book/real sit was ten times worse. the conservitive number of "skinnies" kild was 1,000, up to 10,000...i think the actual number would be closer to 3k to 4k. that amount of enemy killed will give you an idea what the rangers and delta faced....side bar note, this movie will give people an idea on what's going on when the us deploys troops to these little operations, like in afghanistan, alot heavy duty stuff has been going on, but ya only hear about it when our boys take a big hit.

I read the book awhile back, then saw the movie last Saturday. I was glad that they didn't "Hollywood" it too much. I saw the history Channel program last night as well. Seeing the CNN scenes again made me want to... Well I don't think I should post what I wanted to do

Definitely ranks the best movie I have ever seen. For all the service men and women past, present, and future THANK YOU!!!!

hey jeff, thanks, that does mean alot to me,and i bet also to big lou, jaybird, and sorry i don't know the rest of the vets on this board, but i know there are many. but here's the thing, and i don't want anyone to read more into this then i post, but i need to rant. from you people(my rush limbaugh) i don't want a thank you, nothin' not a peep. you see they say that a soldier fights for his buddy, not god or country...ok, maybe, but i contend what makes him join in the first place is love of country. his "america" so to speak. with a sense of duty ,honor ,country thing. i never needed a thank you from "my america".i don't know everyone on this board, but i believe you guys are "my america". you are the guys who joke about being lazy and drinking too much beer..but, you guys as a whole spend time with your kids, setting a good example and instilling good sound morals. you guys gripe about the government, but pay your taxes and get involved in the political process because you understand that democracy, representative as it is, requires involvement. you ride motorcycles, shoot guns, vote, and volunteer. you guys displayed your flags before it was "cool" again. you guys show up to the parades on vets day. you guys are the ones who had uncles fathers and grndfathers who served, you served, and your children will because they feel the same sense of duty that was instilled in you guys. in short, you guys showed up, and it is scarey, but you did. you pulled up to the gate, lowered your head, and twisted the throttle on that cr500, going hard into that first set of double tripples, on the sx track of life. i never really needed thank yous from you guys.....it's the other america that i wanted the thank yous' from. the america that started "not laughing" at the flag, and pretended a certain reverence for this country after 9/11. that america can get down on their hands and knees and kiss my naked butt everytime i'm in the area. my america...the guy driving his pick up, with a yz250,and two pw50s' in the back, with his two kids he just picked up from baseball, on the way to the track, while sining along to "sweet home alabama", to get in some riding in on the public land, that he mobalized to keep open to riding. the other america..a guy driving his new escalade, with his two kids in back, eating dolphin free tuna sandwiches, he's on his cell phone talking to the head of the "ban the gun" P.A.C ,coming from a protest to close all public lands to motor vehicles, on his way to protest with peta ,against ringling bros circus, listening to barbra striesand, as he runs over some poor S.O.B,with dirt under his fingernails, riding a 78 FLH,crushing his skull, not "seeing" the biker as his jane fonda air freshener pendelums back and forth from his review mirror. that america can kiss my .....ok i feel better, thanks for letting me vent

:p :p :p

you can move the post if you wish, the only reason i didn't post in general forums was because i did not want some "kid" who is trying to be cleaver/contraversial to start a firestorm of missunderstanding and flames. this is kinda like talking religion. it would not have botherd me one nit were some one to post,in response, that america sucks,i'm a ***** and can't ride,it won't affect my life, but i know some people sometimes let some things bother them more than they should. so go ahead and move it. btw, as far as black hawk down having in accuracies, yeh...i didn't want to nit pick it tho 'cause i liked the overall theme.

Just got done reading the book on the airplane coming home.
Unbelievable what those guys went through! Does the movie live up to the book, or is it a let down. I mean as in do they change all the facts.

zoomer, the things i found that were not accurate are minor, i think at the end,the rangers popped chem lites to ID thier position, not the use of an IR becon, no biggie, what they didn't do was really highlight some screw-ups that hurt, like fast roping in at 70ft instead of 30ft because the pilots couldn't see the ground through all the dust......a 70ft fast rope:eek: alot of the story was left out because of time constraints but it's true to the whole story, unlike hunt for red october or clear and present danger that changed clancys' story.
