It doesn't matter if it's open or close from a stand point of the system is presurized on the over side of the valve in the MC. It does matter from the stand point of grud and worse yet moisture getting in fluid as it redily absorbes water. It's 2 screws so just cinch it up and be safe.

Here is another brake tip I just learned to get air out of the line:

Take your hands and push the caliper all the way into the disc and then pull the lever several times until you get pressure. (took about 5 pulls for me)

Do this 4 times and see what you've got.

Mine were put you on your head powerful.

I changed my fluid a while back using a mity-vac and they just never seemed as strong as they should be. I've never had a problem using this method before but maybe I was sloppy this time.

I even tried pumping it up and leaving a zip tye on the lever but still wasn't as strong as it should be.

The guy that showed me this said his preferred method is back bleeding and then doing the above technique while the cover is still off the reservoir. Made me a believer.
