My good buddy Chris had his truck stolen sometime Sunday night, early Monday morning. He got home from his cabin in Mio about 11:30pm and when he went to leave for work at 5am there was nothing in the driveway. Worst part, there was a completely rebuilt KX500 in the back. :bang: He lost the truck, an '03 or '04(?) red extended cab Dakota sport, the bike, ramp, cell phone, GPS, brand new pond pump, his duffle bag full of dirty clothes, and everything else that a guy who lives in his truck carries with him. Worst part, the bike and GPS belonged to my best friend Mike. I posted last August when Mike was killed dirtbiking down in the Maumee, OH ORV trails. Anyways, the KX was his project bike. He had gathered all the new parts, tires, wheel assemblies, bars, bearings, plastic, top-end rebuild kit, etc., but had not completed the bike. Chris bought the bike out of his estate and finished what was left with the plan to ride it for Mike. The GPS was Mike's and was on his bike when he crashed that day.

Chris lives in Dearborn Heights and we figure that whoever did it, must have seen him driving and followed him home. I know most of you are outside of the metro area, but if you see a totally reuilt, like new KX500, check the guy out for me, ok?

Damn, that sucks! I'll keep an eye on some of the "For Sale" forums. The jerk who stole it might try to part it out or something. I hope your buddy finds his truck and everything else.

I wanna tell ya something - THAT STINKS :|
I lost 32 grand worth of "bike inventory" a few years ago and my ROTTEN insurance company (Farmers) back stabbed me too so my wife and I took it on the chin! I FEEL for you brother Chris - whereever your are!!!! Some more advice - if you find the low lifes who took your stuff - square up with them BEFORE you go to court!! Our court system is very effiecent at locking up scum but TERRIBLE at getting restitution!! Promise the rotten suckers that you will not prosecute if they will give full resitution .. Then after they do - beat the - owe wait, kids read this/ then PROSECUTE to the fullest extent!!!
I cant imagine your cops are any less stressed then ours are.. I finally got one of the PUNKS that did mine and ONLY because I made finding them a FULL TIME job.. The cops were VERY helpful - they went as far as even running plate numbers for me and feeding me info (they were AWESOME). I used the State Police for everything - the court system totally failed us though, let a 3 time felon walk because there was no room in the fenced in area.. I think we have recieved about 7 of our $20 a month retribution checks from the thief.. THe court simply says they cannot force him to make the payments.. At any rate - USE THE STATE COPS and find these suckers!!!!!
We need a DETAILED description of the KX - ANY noticable frame dents or permanent scars anywhere?? VIN # would be great to have! Detail account of all new parts - WATCH ****!!!!!! (****YYYYY) (EEE -- BBB -- AAA -- YYY)
Also, one of the sights I frequent is "pitbull" maybe spelled pit-bull.com (its on my favs so I never type it). It is the ulitmate KX500 site and if this jerk O that ripped off Chris are puter savy they may try to post in the PB classifieds or ask questions about the bike!! OF course, I will keep an eye out over here (west side - I know all the local dealers and bike yards personally) and will let everyone know to keep the eyes peeled!!!
I would also jump onto Motorcycleshopper.com and keep an eye out there too! They have a searc h function and EVERTHING has a date attached to its easy to see if anything "new" is up.. Also, they have a bike junk yard listing on the home page icons - might wanna make some calls to yards around the country, have a list of stuff - with VIN # to fax/e-mail them.. Most of the yards that I have dealt with are pretty square shooters and they HATE thiefs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No thanks necessary - hope we catch the filthy scumbag(s) who did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Give us some info - Woodsy

Thanks everyone! I talked to Chris last night. The Detroit PD found his truck over by the old Tiger Stadium (typical!) and he is going to the impound yard today. He worked downtown when he was a kid and he is going to pay them a visit to see what they might be able to find out off the street. The people he worked for dealt heavily with the Greektown area and he did some "collections" for them.

Woodsy, I don't think there'll be any possibility for restitution or any hope of catching then unless he sees them riding the kx thru the hood. His contents are most likely a total loss. The KX was pretty much stock, non-descript except for some decals and a clear (white), possibly over-sized tank. I only saw the bike twice, once when Mike bought it two of years ago and last time it was in a shady spot in Chris' shed up north. I might try the Caddy dealer where Mike was a mechanic. He bought it off a guy he worked with, IT guy, I think, and see if he has any information on the bike. You know older bike, cash sale between friends, the bike doesn't really exist. That is why Chris bought it when Mike's dad was clearing out Mike's estate.

I'm going to check those sites Woodsy and see if anything pops up in the Detroit area.

Once again, MTR'ers rock! :aj:
