I have a 1983 It 490 that i just got done restoring. i have ridden about 25 hrs on it since being done.

I have a really good friend that was thinking of getting back into enduros after a good 15 years off.

What do I have to do to be able to run with him? It would mainly be just to ride. I am in decent enough shape, and the bike is pretty much new.

I have a speedo and a Moose roll chart holder. I have upgraded the front forks and installed a disc brake in the front.

Would i be able to run with this bike? Or would I have to run a vintage class? He will be running a 2000 ttr250 thats pretty much tricked out. Any chances we could run together?

you would have to run 250 and up 2-stroke open class
you will need a head light which your bike should have already
and possibbly a licence plate which ive seen peaple around here
use plates off of other bikes and mopeds

Hmm? Does the plate only go for enduros that cross onto public streets? (Forgive me I am new at this) As far as getting the bike liscened I am not sure if they will let a bb 2 stroke be nowdays.

Is there anywhere I can get info from state to state on rules and reg of enduros?
Thanks

Check out the links from this thread HERE

You do not need a plate to run any Black Jack enduro event.

Regardless of what bikes you and your buddy ride, if your ages are in the same range, you could ride that class. 30-39 = vet, 40-49 = senior, etc.

That might be an easier way to ride together, at least for the beginning of the ride

So long as you both sign up for the same minute, you could ride all day together and compete on scorecards. Even though he may be in a Senior class & you're in whatever, there won't be any classes out on the trail.

That is, unless the 'old guy' takes you to school.:)

He is a much better rider than I Its just one of those things to be running with people you know.

Yep, he's gonna smoke me.

The old 490 is going to be a handfull in the woods. What a riot. Kick your buddie on his "woods special" and you are the man! Never been to an enduro where you actually needed a headlight to enter, even when they advertise it that way.

Actually the 490 isnt bad at all, Sisnce it was made to be a dedicated woods bike from the get go it does rather well.

I dont really have a problem keeping up through the tight stuff as one might think. If I do get a tad behind in the twistys I just roll on a tad more throttle to keep pace. Considering the amount of new and newer style parts the bike has I may actually be the guy with the *Newest* bike there LOL.

It doesnt matter if I was on the best bike in the world My friend could be on a pw50 and still make me look like a fool. LOL.

But you can only get better by trying right?
