Case Splitting Question - KX85

Hey Folks,

Son seized the crank bearings on his KX85 I believe?
Almost ready to split the cases but hit a snag with removing the stator.
One of the phillips screws is extremely tight and I am on the verge of stripping the head. Damn, why don't they use sockethead capscrews?

Anyway, from looking at the stator, it doesn't appear to me that it even has to come off to split the cases? Is this correct? I already have the magneto off and that looks to me to be all that is necessary on that side of the case?

Yeah, I don't believe it has to come off either..

But an impact driver will take it right off. That's a tool that should be in your tool box anyway.

Yea,

Probably a good time to go and pick one up.
I have run into this situation with Phillips head screws before so I might as well take it as an indicator that my toolbox is short.

The stator does have to come out to expose the rest of the case half screws, there are a couple underneath the stator plate.

1/4" pneaumatic impact works really good, when you need to remove them that is.
