Cheap trailer parts?

Bill and I just got a new (to us) motorcycle trailer and it needs some amore. Does anyone have any suggestions about buying new trailer parts?
Want list:
New tires, wheel bearings, bearing caddies, fenders, safety chains and a light kits.

www.northerntool.com will probably have what you're looking for. Shipping may be a bit spendy though. Better have that thing ready to take the bikes to Clear Creek or Middle Creek after the first rain:p

Wal Mart or the local auto parts store sell the lights for cheap-cheap. Be sure to get a left and a right as it makes a difference on the way the side marker points and the plate light points. Auto Zone for sure has them, as well as the side marker lights. Not sure how many you need on the sides.

For tires you can get complete wheels and tires at a place called Academy Sports and Outdoors. I'd check with one of the regional outdoor suppliers in your area that has a big marine section. Wal Mart carries them too but seem to be out of them when I'm there. The ones for my trailer only cost $39 for the whole wheel and tire!

I think Academy even sells the fenders. If not, check with a local trailer dealer or try the northerntool.com mentioned earlier.

I went to a local trailer place, picked up (all new) a 60" axle with brackets (1200 pound support?), leafs, spindles/bearings (no brakes or hardware), hangars, the whole she-bang for $125. I grabbed two of them. Sooner or later I'll build something with them. :) Great for bikes or sleds, quads...

Check the yellow pages for local trailer and RV places. I think it's common stuff to them and the price I paid is about average.

I want to make a rack on the trailer to hold the gas so it isn't in the car.
Do y'all know where to buy old fashioned jerry cans?

Try your local surplus store or gun show. Some of the offroad outfitters have them and mounts too. You might try the local Barney Noble's periodical rack for the 4x4 Testosterone on Steroids issue...

I will also add, that no matter how I try, (and I've built 4 different sled/bike trailers) in the last 4 years. NOT once was I able to complete one for under $600. Axle $125, wheels and tires $150, metal $150, hitch parts, wiring, 3 sheets of plywood $120, bearing buddies, lights, paint, etc.

The real advantage is that you can custom build it to a particular vehicle or size or application, including color.

I bought a 24' Classic dominator, we were going to a race with a trailer to start with, to pick up the new trailer... How was I gonna get 2 trailers home? We read up on the new trailer and built a flatbed trailer that fit inside the new enclosed trailer. So that was a good example of how I was able to build a specific trailer for a specific need. Couldn't buy one that size, 84" wide, not 96.

If your time is worth anything to you, finding a good trailer in the $400-$500 range is a bargain. You can still trick it out.

Wally World also sells tires and wheel/tire assemblies. The local 'Superstore' sells new 12'' tires for $25 each, and new wheel/tire assemblies for $45 each. They also sell 1-7/8" trailer tongues and chain, along with assorted trailer accessories, including 'Bearing Buddies'.

cheap trailer parts

You can get a leaf sprung rear axle out of a front drive car or mini van. The local salvage yard around here will let you have an axle, the springs, hangers AND the wheels and tires for 100 bucks.
