I have a 1992 wr200, very low compression due to scratches on cylinder wall. How would I find the cheapest place to fix these scratches and what else will I have to replace once it is bored?

as for boring find a local machine shop...OR you local cycle shop...it should be in the range of an hour's labor - about $70 is what I pay. when you get it back, you'll need to wash it with warm soap and water, dry and oil.....after that, its basically a top end (oversize piston, gaskets, top end bearing, etc)

Any good machine shop can do it, best to plan ahead and have the factory clearences with you, and the piston.
They'll mic it and bore it to specs, I've never paid more than about $50, just a note if its a nikasil cylinder this doesn't apply as the cyliner will have to be bored and then replated.
Good Luck.

machine shops i`ve dealt with check the specs bore to the next size and won`t continue the boring until you show them the proper oversize replacment.

I know how you can bore the cylinder for 4.00.

Well, it will really be 8.00 all total after you buy a ticket for yourself.

Take it to the afternoon showing of american treasure. That was the worst movie I have ever seen.

At $80 a piece, id be suprised if people payed that, unless you are one of the very few in your area that can do it. I had it done by a professional who does cylinders for pro's for $40.

boring bars are pricey...If you are getting it for $40 great. I pay $70 and am happy to know that when I get home it will be within the tolerances that I expect to see - and the ports (where app) are champfered....

I think that bike has a lined cylinder. If so, Replating will be necessary. The cost will be around 400 bucks if so.

I've had 3 cylinders bored in the last year or so, at 3 different places. 1 was $40, at a machine shop, they didn't chamfer the ports, but the bore was very good. another was $45, fairly good job, by a karting place, ports were chamfered too. third was $48, at a cycle shop, best of the 3; tight tolerances and good chamfers. With these options available, I would never pay 70-80 bucks for the work.

The local machine shop here does it for around $40. That includes boring, chamfering, honing, and setting the ring end gap on the new piston kit if you buy it from them.

You can get a cylinder re-plated for about $150 from guys like US chrome and Millenium. If you want it bored and coated its $200. Cheaper if your a dealer or shop with tax ID.
