CheckMate installation

My new CheckMate just arrived today. Wondering how other CheckMate owners have gone about their installs...did you do it by the book or do you have some tricks of the trade to share? I must admit I'm a bit concerned about that putty holding, but if ICO says to do it, it must stay in place (as long as the surface is cleaned real good). Routing the cable isn't a big deal, or even modifying the sensor bracket, but there must be a better way to mount the magnet.

Any info is appreciated.

I don't have a Checkmate, but I've mounted several of the rare earth type magnets for a ProComp using the putty. The stuff sticks, have no worries.

I drilled a blind hole in the brake rotor and put a earth magnet in it. Has worked for eight months.:)

The instructions say not to attach the magnet to the metal brake rotor...did you use the aluminum piece of flat stock with your 'blind hole' ? I thought about countersinking a small hole in the hub and epoxying the magnet, has anyone else done this?

Ty Davis sells a replacement rotor bolt that has the magnet built in. Just another option to try.

The putty works just fine!
I have no problems with mine. It seems like a weak way to do it, but trust me when i say that the putty hardens up like metal.

I drilled a hole half way through the rotor. I then put teh magnet in the hole. It holds it self in place. The hole is basically the same size as the magnet.
