Clutch basket nut

Hey all. I'm having trouble getting the nut off my 1998 Kx 250(clutch basket). I couldn't get it to come of the normal way then someone said it might be a left handed thread so I put the air gun on it turning to the right and it started spinning but now I think it's stripped because it spins both ways but doesn't come off or tighten. Any ideas how to get it off now
??? I guess then I'd have to replace the shaft if I do get it off. Any help would be appreciated.

Well happy days are here again because after some playing and a little brake cleaner I got the nut off. I'm thinking the brake cleaner made the nut grip instead of slip. The nut was stripped and not the shaft so all is well.

Make sure to either replace the keeper for the nut if so equiped or use some thread locker.
