There are a number of things that go into the mix besides the rings. The gaskets play a big part and (normaly this doesn't happen but it could and thats a bad seal at the cases). Pull your jug and replace your piston and rings. Put on new base and cap gaskets. Also don't forget to tourque to spec. After your done seal the carb and exaust opening and test with a compression tester, it shoud be between 190 and 200 psi for a new piston.

Good Luck,
Phillip
