Ive got some old MX films my dad had taken of my brother from the early 70s. Old 8mm color, but no sound.

I want to send them out to be transferred to DVD. Has anyody had any experience witht this? What kind of results can you get?

My sister had all our old 8mm movies from the 60s and 70s transfered over to DVD. She then made copies and gave them to us for Christmas. The results were for the most part very good. Some of the film was in bad shape, but thats to be expected.

kmccune -- and where did she have this done? local or mail order? we had one done about 10-years ago (to vcr tape) but it was rather expensive as they tried to be artsy with the thing (music, cut in and out...) rather than just "dump to tape" i would like to find a "dump to dvd" operation to do a bunch of these for me.

How do you play the 8mm tapes now?? Right out of the vid camera?

If you have the cables that go out (red/white/yellow) you can get a vid capture card for your PC and do it like that. Let me know what you have and I'll point you in the right direction..

2stroke, we took a pile of old 8mm I got from my folks during a move and had it put on DVD. My wife (Pro Photographer at the time) took it to a camera repair place she knew of and they took care of it, they also do the old slides to DVD.

We just gave them the film and slides, didn't cost too much if I recall correctly. We gave it to my folks for xmas last year and they loved it!

Really rattled their memories trying to remember who everybody was and I got to see myself attending a dragboat race at the tender age of 5-6 months old! ( I was a handsome stallion even back then :) )

Hit the yellowbook and call the REAL Photography stores, if they don't do it they can point you in the right direction, and doing it was well worth the effort. The film ain't gonna get any better if you wait.
