cr 250 01/02/03 differences?

Hello all,im looking at buying a friends cr off him for a steal of a price!Really wanted to know what year did they bring out the alloy frame and is there any thing different looks wise?He said its an 03 but just wanted to make sure exactly,any pictures or help would be apprciated.cheers gaz :cool:

i believe the aluminum frame came out in 98, it did for the 125. Get a pic of it. And put the vin # on here and we can tell you what year it is... Whats a steal. It my be stolen

Hope I can help. The 2002 and 2003 are almost the same bike. They both have the third generation aluminum frame, great suspension, great handling and crappy engines. The 2002 had no bottom end. With some tuning it could be made competitive, but bone stock it sucked. In 2003 they changed the porting,etc. and it helped, but it still wasn't on par with the competition. It too needed some work to get it to perform. Don't get me wrong...I love my 03 CR250R. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Im just being honest with you. If you want a bike that handles better than the competition and Don't mind spending some time getting the engine to perform...buy it. Oh...as for the 2001. It had a second generation aluminum frame. It handled ok, but some people raved about the engine. Good luck. :cool:

In 2002 they went to the electronically controlled 'RC' power valve. Frame also changed a bit.

the 01 had the greatest engine of the 00-> cr250s, frame was decent but suffered some vibration.

cheers for the helpful info guys,im trying to get hold of m8 to get the vin number if it will help,im un able to put pictures up at the mo,i test rode the bike yesterday and what a missile it went like!i also have a particular fond of the yz 250 judging by the reviews on the forums,as with m8s cr it dosent help with it having no graphics 2 determine year,im eager to find out so i know if its a good price :bang: ! as it stands i can buy it for 1200 pounds

RIGHT! ive been looking at cr pictures on bikepics forums and narrowed it down to either 2000/2001 defenitley,which one not decided yet!
