Hope I can help. The 2002 and 2003 are almost the same bike. They both have the third generation aluminum frame, great suspension, great handling and crappy engines. The 2002 had no bottom end. With some tuning it could be made competitive, but bone stock it sucked. In 2003 they changed the porting, etc. and it helped, but it still wasn't on par with the competition. It too needed some work to get it to perform. Don't get me wrong...I love my 03 CR250R. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Im just being honest with you. If you want a bike that handles better than the competition and Don't mind spending some time getting the engine to perform...buy it. Oh...as for the 2001. It had a second generation aluminum frame. It handled ok, but some people raved about the engine. Good luck.
