'97 chassis is fine. Most handling issues are suspension related. I was terrified of my '97 in stock trim. It would never do the same thing twice. Got the suspension redone and what do ya know - I was looking for more motor. The Gen 1 frame is supposed to be the strongest of the bunch - should provide a good platform for the 500. It is heavier, but doubt someone of your stature would really notice the difference. Steering on the old chasis can be sharpened up by changing from the standard 24mm clamps 22mm offset clamps.
