So i have the opprotunity(sp) to buy a 05 cr85 for cheap, as in really cheap. The kids are rich so they get stuff tear it up and sell it.
He said it has a blown top end. What things out of ordinary should i look for. Ill check compression what else. As far as crank AND trans?

If the bike was hammered it could need a complete rebuild including crank as 85's are not the longest lived engines especially when they don't get love. So cheap might not be what you think it is.

For $300, even if you do need some work for it, even on the high end, it's alot cheaper than buying a new one, you can learn alot from it, and maybe even get better aftermarket parts for it. Keep the cost under what you would pay for a new one, about $3000 and have some fun!! You could bring it to a shop and get a quote on what needs to be done, then buy a manual and do it yourself!! If it needs a top end and the cylinders bad, you could get a big bore or soemthing!! I love cheap projects and hunting for parts, if I were you, I'd jump on it for the fun in making it like new again!!!! A big thumps up!!

You might even want to give Service Honda a call as they are now using CR85 frames for a different project- might have some engines for sale ( I did see a 2003 CR85 for $1500 http://servicehonda.com/parts/engines.html )

Or check BBR's garage sale page in the past they also had brand new CR85 engines
