Picked up my 250X last week and love it. I have a 02' KDX220 but I feel like I can twice as fast on this bike bone stock. But in the pursuit of faster lap times the upgrade is tempting. My question is has anyone installed this kit with the baffle removed? And what is the noise output when the bike is uncorked?

I don't know what it is with the cam and header pipe. But we just opened up the air box, removed the baffle and rejetted. We sound tested at 99db at last weeks WORCS race in Goldendale WA.
P.S.: Took first place in Open C class, 1st overall amateur (1st 3 are all A riders), first race on the bike.

New Dirt Rider(I think?) has it listed as bike of the year and also messed with uncorkin' it. If I recall they said it was just as fast quiet. Claimed it was OBNOXIOUS LOUD uncorked. Do us all a favor and keep your stock pipe or mabey a Q series. Loud pipes don't save lives...Or make you a better rider. Enjoy your new scooter and get her good and muddy!
I am 215 lbs, or slightly more depending on whether or not I'm retaining water. I cranked the pre-load on the stock rear shock almost as far as I could to get the right amount of sag. I just recently bumped up the low-speed compression +4 clicks from the stock setting. I LOVE my X. I ride almost exclusively tight single-track woods trails. I'm coming off a decade of riding CR250's ('89, '91, '95, '99), which are about 20 hp more than the X. I truly believe I'm faster through the woods on that little 4-banger. I know it takes a lot less effort. Now for CA desert, I don't know. I've ridden Baja (once) and I know a big bore would be the hot ticket there. On the other hand, I'll soon be 45. Do I really need to be going 90 mph off-road?
Bottom line: I think the X is the best off-road machine I've ever ridden. I thought about waiting another year to see if Honda releases a 450X. I'm glad I didn't wait. This machine is awesome.
Addendum- I WILL keep my exhaust in the quiet stock form. I HATE loud pipes! Less sound = more ground.

We didn't change the pink wire and we ended up with jetting as follows:
42 pilot
one slot richer on the needle
145 main
The bike runs outstanding with the baffle in but still has some hesitation with the baffle out. We're going to experiment with the leak jet to see if we can cure it.

What have you folks found to be the tool of choice for adjusting the A/F screw on the -x?
There is about zip-. for clearance under the screw. Most 90º angled drivers have too big a joint to fit. I haven't seen one that fits, yet.
This screw being on the downdraft side, it is an air/fuel mixture screw? NOT an air-screw for the lo-speed circuit?

Here is what I did to mine to get at that pesky little screw, works great and no need for tools.
Go get you a piece of clear hose, I used an clear fuel hose. Now all you will need is a permanent marker and a pair of needle nose pliers. Cut the hose to about 3 inches, and make tack marks around the end of the hose you will be putting over the screw. This way you can keep up with how many turns you make while adjusting the screw. Now just use the needle nose pliers to push the hose on the screw. It should be a tight fit or the hose won't work. If it does not go on tight get a smaller hose. And PRESTO>>>>....now you don't need anymore tools to adjust this screw....you can just reach and grab hold of the hose with your fingers to adjust the screw.

When I got my 250X last week it would hardly start. It Cranked and cranked and cranked till the batter was almost dead before it would start and stay running.
So tonight I put in a 42 pilot jet and a 152 main jet and set the fuel screw at 2 3/4 turns out and put it all back together I pulled in the clutch hit the button ONCE and it fired and stayed running. I was amazed.
I did not cut the air box but I did take the snorkle off and I did take the baffle out of the exhaust and IT IS LOUD. I put the baffle in my tool box incase I ride somplace that I need to be quiet.
I also plan to move the needle up a notch or two next.

So that 42 pilot helped a lot ay. I have 250x with a FMF Q. That is my only mod. I installed a 150 main. I notice that it does seem to turn over an excesive amount before it starts. It always starts. Just not as soon as I would like it to. Some times once warm I have to crack the throttle just a tad to get her to light. maybe a 42 pilot would help this. Hmmm.

Since riding it around the trails by my house, I can say that it'll do fine on that hill. I'm taking it on the 22nd for that ride and we may end up in Phelan so I'll know for sure then. I like it alot so far, not near the top end hit like the RM but it has nice low end torque and mid range power. It feels lighter than the RM and it turns on a dime. I then throttle out of the turn and it works great, usually in 2nd gear. I can see if you were racing up the sand hill, you'd be at a disadvantage but for the most part, it'll hang just fine throught the rest of the tight single tracks. There's a good write up in the Dirtrider issue I just reveived, it does a 24 hour test on it at Gorman. I'll post a ride report after that ride on the 22nd and let you know.

Im taking my 250X out tomorrow for the first ride since adding the 42 pilot, 152 main and moving the clip on the needle to the 4th position.
ALSO for those of you who read the needle has 4 position, thats wrong. The needle in my 250X has 7 positions. From the factory it was set at 3 and I moved it to 4.

That's what I was thinking. If I can make that ride, it will be 125 two smoke vs 250X in a drag race up the sand hill. No wussing allowed (even if there's deep ruts, etc.)
Sounds like a fun bike - hopefully it can whoop a little 125. :ride:

Well went for the first ride since I did the jetting and needle and opened the exhaust and airbox.
Starts easy and fast now when cold or hot. No hesitation of idle, infact pop the thottle and hold on the front end is coming up.
MUCH more power and Id have to say YES it will kick a 125.
