cylinder plating

how long should the nicasil plating on my cylinder last. i had it replated for the first time since it was new in 91 two years ago because it had a little scratch in it. i just tore it down and now theres a big peeled off section on the intake side. thanks for any replies

I'm not sure how long it should last. But it sounds like who ever done your plating wasn't that good, if the original lasted from 91 to 03. And this didn't last 2 years just doen't sound right. just my .02 worth

Yep, what he said. It should last a lot longer than that. I had mine replated, with a 3 month warranty. I stripped it down and examined the bore at 10 weeks and found the plating starting to lift. I took it back and had it redone. The shop engineer attributed the flaking to a weak plating solution, and redid it with a fresh solution. I have had no problems since then (18 months). I fully expect it to last 10 years or more with care,

I agree, the plating should wear through, not peal off.
