new top end for cr80

Hey i have a 2001 honda cr80rb and i just ordered a new top end kit from wiseco. I was wondering if anyone knows if the bike has a powervalve because my cylinder isn't coming off :bang: and it doesn't look like there's anything else holding it on. I don't have the owner's manual because i bought the bike off my friend. If anyone could help me i'd realy appreciate it.

No power valve. Remove the 4 nuts around the base of the cylinder. With the exhaust and carb off the cylinder should lift right off. Base gasket may be stuck if someone glued it take a rubber mallet and tap it lightly while lifting up.

thanks. i kinda figured that, i just wasn't sure. i wanted to know before i did anything stupid that would cost me

My cylinder on my cr80 is stuck and wont come off! :bang: All of the bolts are off and there's no powervalve. I tried using wd-40 on the bolts and that didn't work, then I tried using a rubber mallet to loosen the cylinder, then I even tried to pry it off! Nothing worked!! I don't know if i should heat up my cylinder first since its so cold out, but I don't want to ruin any gaskets. I need help. What should I do to get it off? Any advice would be great.

My cylinder on my cr80 wont come off. All the bolts are off and theres no powervalve. I tried banging it loose, greasing the bolts, and prying it off. Nothings worked so far.
Advice?

Are you sure you got all of them? I had 4 on my top end of the cr125 and one was hidden behind a cover inside. Then i took a pry bar and gently pryed evenly on all sides to remove it. Thats all my knowledge...sorry.

There's a couple locating pins, or sleeves, that tend to corrode to the cylinder. Whatever you do, DO NOT PRY on the gasket suface. Spray some penetrating oil like PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench on each of the four cylinder base bolts to help break down the corrosion.

The gaskets are junk as soon as you take it apart, period.

If this task appears to be beyond your ability then you will be money ahead by letting someone more qualified do the job. OR you could but a factory Honda service manual.

I had a cr500 that was a b*tch to get off. I had to pry it off. then had to have the head milled down to get rid of the damage. was lucky to get away with that and not buy a new head. Do like Joe said with penetrating oil and let set for a day or two while spraying more in occasionally. that didn't work with mine and I had to go to extremes to get it off....

With the head off, and the base nuts off, take a dead blow and strike the the top of the cylinder where the stud goes in,(should be a strong area), hit it forward, then backward. Then try the sides. Once its broke free, it should come right off. Pull it straight up, do not twist the cylinder,(a ring can snag an open port). If it hangs in the intake or exhaust, you can close the ring and remove it. If it hangs in a transfer, you are screwed. If the piston is froze in the bore, you need as large a piece of wood that can fit in the bore, and drive the piston free. If it is stuck at the bottom, shim the cylinder up and pound.
