After re-reading this string I thought I should mention a couple of interesting tid bits.. I'm not awere of any fork pistons that actually create any damping at a speed that is attainable in normal use.. So no pistons actually do any work, and the shims whether high or low are responsible for controlling the rate of growth and total area as it relates to the piston. (this is important when you consider piston design) So possibly part of the confusion comes in because we are not looking deeply enough into what's happening because the alterative view seems more correct.. In other words someone rides a "low flow" piston notes its performance, rides a "high flow" piston notes its performance and says, less shims on the "low flow" more on the "high flow" (lets say in this case they fell similar) then the piston on the "low flow" must be doing something.. Seems logical right? Wrong.. The key point is that if they where to feel similar they are storing similar total energy as they create similar valve orifice area.. So many shims deflected a very small amount store similar energy to a few shims deflected to a much greater extent.. (Its really like a spring rate verse prelaod type argument in concept).. They can both feel the same at some point.. That's pretty simple explanation hope it helps. Finally KYB is moving very much farther ahead on the CV its not a dead horse by any stretch of the imagination.. They can and will be used on KY forks whether oil lock or bumper.. BR, Jer
