I need to get a race partner for a D38 team race. The guy I had lined up can't do it so now I need to find someone. Here's a link to the flyer HERE. I need someone for the Vet div (30+). I race the Novice skill level but can team with any skill level. I'm 6 points behind the lead guy in the standings with two races to go so I want someone that will make it through at a decent pace. The race is 10 16mi loops so each of us will do about 80 mi pending how far the leaders (experts) get ahead of us. If you already have an AMA card then you won't have to shell out as much $. I plan to camp down there the whole weekend starting on the 11th.

Holly sheet, that's a long race. How does it work? One or two bikes? Change riders every loop? What's the terrain typcially like? Technical? Hight speeds? Fire roads? Motocross track? Sand washes? What my cost, I have ama & d-37? How far from Orange County? Is this to many questions?

Sounds like a fun race. Go for it Thumbs, thats right up your alley. Besides it's a team race and you get a break every lap while your teamate is out riding. Did something like this with a buddy of mine and we had a blast.

you can ride your own bike and shift racing duty's as you like, it's desert scrambles and usually pretty fast paced riding.
since you have a AMA card it will be $40.00 per rider

allways a fun time

How ever the team wants to divide the laps up is fine. You can switch off every lap or every 2 laps or whatever. Each person can use their own bike. The team is given a wrist band for the current racer to wear. The terrain is mostly hard pack with some washes. It's usualy a pretty good course some stuff that will wear you out but not to much technical stuff. Since you have the AMA card I believe the race fee would be $45 for Pie plate it would be $40 if you are a D38 member. The staging area is at plaster city east in Ocotillo off the 8 frwy. If you do a map quest search for the town of Ocotillo (Dunaway Rd) you should be able to find how far it is for you.

I've found a partner but if anyone else wants to come along and try to find a partner or just to play ride feel free to come on down. I'll be in a 31ft winnabego super cheif motorhome tan and brown with the KTM and the son's husky. And Steve will have his toy box and black dodge dakota.

The race was great. Not sure yet where we finished. The course was 17.5 miles for 10 laps and it was a fast one. The leaders lapped us once so we only did 9 laps (5 for me 4 for my partner) but I think only about 6 guys actually did all 10. I took the first lap and ended up crashing 3 times on that one, but I stayed upright for the next 4. The first crash was just a lay down while making a turn in a wash. The second crash was in a sandy whoop section where I ended up cartwheeling the bike. And the third I hit a G-out and my foot came off the peg and I went down but all I got was a little scrape on my arm so all's good. I told the guys back at camp it takes alot of practice to know how to not get hurt when you crash. The scariest moment actually came when we were play riding. We were clipping along a trail pretty good when we hit a road crossing that I didn't see. It had about 3ft banks on each side from being graded. My eyes must have been huge I thought for sure I was going down but it kicked me up just right and I was able to ride it out. The Precision Concepts suspension and Scotts steering stabilizer paid for themself right there. The next and season final race for D38 is Dec 11th at plaster city west, so if anyone wants to try it, lets hook up. :ride:
