Daytona/Bikeweek Supercross

Anyone ever attended the Supercross at the Daytona Speedway during Bikeweek? I'm just curious if they let street bikes go to the infield and/or spectators to the pit area like during the road races.

My wife and I usually take our street bikes down midweek to take in the sights (and there are some very interesting sights, trust me). We normally catch the road racing but this year would like to see the Supercross. Since my son now races Motocross he would be thrilled if we could bring home some
pictures or autographs of the pro riders.

I have not attended yet, I have ordered my tickets for this year though and they said there are no pit passes for this round. Not sure about the bike in the infield issue, probably no.

I went 2 years ago and the pits were open to the public for what seemed like the whole MX race, but I dont know about this year. Daytona seems to make up their mind at the last moment on many access issues from what I saw.
Good luck.

LOL on what Walt said! :) I also went in '00 during Bikeweek and I totally agree with Walt... seemed like a last minute decision to announce that the pits were open to all spectators - free of charge. But I don't think everyone quite caught on - because there were very few fans in the pit and pretty much NO lines (unlike other SX'es and MX'es). You won't be able to bring bike into the infield. But it's a very cool event... different that other SX'es. During the day (not at night), longer/rougher course, more outdoor style...

I'm going down for the first time this year! Just wondering what other DRNers were going to be attending?

I'm going to try to make it down. I'll probably stay in St. Augustine (if i have a date) or somewhere in So. Daytona Beach if I'm alone. I NEED a road trip.

How about we all meet at Steak & Shake on Speedway for breakfast?

We will be staying about 20 or so miles above Daytona at Palm Coast. It’s nice and quiet at night, one can take open pipe "potato potato " sounds for just soooo long..LOL. Real nice ride down A1A along the coast coming into Daytona. Also right by the interstate if we decide to bypass the masses and head straight for the Speedway for the expo or races.

Julius, JTT, or anyone else gonna be on bikes?
:D

A1A is the reason I like to stay in St. Augie. That's a very scenic and relaxing drive if you're in a convertible or on a bike. I attended the Rolex 24 for five or six years, but I haven't been down for the last couple of years. France and Company managed to ruin that race - let's hope they don't kill the SX as well.

I'll probably be in my truck or a rental convertible.

I wish I could be on a bike, but will be flying down for the weekend. I'll probably be bumming rides with some friends down there, or may actually break down and rent a car. I'm travelling alone :( ;) but have friends that will also be attnding, as well as relatives in Daytona.

Meeting sounds like a great idea. I have no idea of schedules or even where anything is at this point, but if we set a time, I am sure I could make it work.

daytona s/x

My son and I are driving down from NC, and staying in St Aug. I have been told that the pits and infield are closed on Sat. Gates open around 8:00 am. Does anyone have any idea on the schedule for the day (practice, qualifers, etc?).

The qualifiers won't have your top riders out there because they automatically go to the main program.

Thanks Nikki. In addition, I remember reading somewhere early gate entrance is 09:00. Shame if they don’t let at least the bikers to the infield. It’s a totally different perspective when you can ride to the edge of the track or pit area. I haven't been to the SX stuff there before but its awesome to ride up to the back straight during the road races and see the bikes come blasting through tucked in at full bore!

Well I got a couple pictures from like 1974

Pics of John Desoto, Tony D, Jimmy Weinert and Brad Lackey racin' at Daytona. . In fact the following day Bad Brad and Jammin Jimmy joined us "root top" on the converted bus to RV to watch the Daytona 200. Now that was a thrill for me, I was pissin my pants!! I have not been there in many years I have a chance to go this year but doubt that I will be able to make it. :(

Daytona 1974 pics in my gallery now pending approval. Lets see -2002 take away 1974 is 28 years ago. Crap I'm really getting old. :uh:

I am flying down March 8th on southwest air from Chicago Midway airport to
Orlando. $68.00 non stop one way.
I have a place in Ocklawaha which is 45 minutes west of daytona.
The times I have been there you wouldnt even be able to see anything from the infield because there is a wall of trailers and media lined between the track and the infield. Im going to drive back sometime toward the end of the month.

To all drn members who won`t be privileged to see Daytona in person,it will be on Speedchannel live along with all the major road racing. Speedchannel my very well turn out to be a good asset for motorcycling even with the major focus being nascar. With nascar`s popularty more people will wont to see it so more cable systems will include it in ther lineup`s.Some people are most likely upset because speedchannel is covered up with nascar this week but this is speed week so what do they expect, this is the most popular spector sport in the world, for me it`s 2nd behind motorcycle`s.Anyway i think it will turn out good for us:)
