Did my first RC whip...
RC whip Hey RM250'er Cool. I know you didnt mean too, but you did a whip, so tell me, does this sound like something you would like to learn how to do at will so to speak? I watch other riders doing that move and it says to me that they have pretty much learned how to do all the jumps correctly, and are now ready for a little more advanced stuff. Plus, they know, that not everyone knows how to perform them. I myself have done very small whips, and like yours, they were done totally by accident. They didnt feel bad, but it was a very strange feeling, with the rear wheel not in line w/ the front. From what I have seen other riders do and heard some others talk about, the basic whip, starts out like you say. You could be coming out of a turn, and a double or a tabletop is right there, then what you do is, if you are making a left turn, you go the far outside corner, then turn your front wheel to the right, so that you are going up the ramp at an angle. This whip will be with your rear tire going out to the right side. Then I think you turn or rotate your hips CCW, and this is what throws your rear tire out to your right. it makes sense if you think about it. I dont believe that you actually turn the bars one way or the other, at least I havent seen riders do that. Now that you are up in the air over the jump, and your bike is pretty much sort of sideways, I think you have to counter rotate your hips to get the rear tire back in line w/ the front. This all has to happen very quickly, because we certainly dont want to land w/ the bike still sideways! Talk about rough landings! I think what I have described is a very small and basic whip, not the one where the bike is laid flat ala RC, I have watched him on tracks and he does this so quickly, I cant figure out how he does it so smoothly! Any others out there who have performed this trick, and can do it when they want to, and would like to provide some basic info as to the how to's, I would like to hear form them, and I bet some others would to. Ride safe.
