im hopefully going to be getting a new kdx200 in the next month. so i was starting to look at different pipes for it. and when i was on the fmf site i found that fmf made a woods and a desert gnarly pipe. i was wondering what the difference between the 2 are if any? thanks

The desert pipe is made for more mid-range to top-end overrev, sacrificing a little on the bottom-end. The woods pipe is made for low-end torque while sacrificing top-end. If I were you I'd get the bike first and see how much power its got, then a Pro Circuit pipe!

Important Fact (Remember This)
There are only three pipes for a KDX. Regardless of how many names you see them called. For example, desert, woods, gnarly woods, mountain, rocky mountain, whatever...
There is an FMF KG-35, FMF KG-30, and Pro Circuit.
Essentially, the KG-35 is a "torque" pipe more suited to the 200.
The KG-30 is a "rev" pipe, and is more suited for a 220.
Sometimes, the magazines will call a KG-30 a torque pipe for a 220. If you have a 200, you'll probably be better off with a -35, if you have a 220, you'll be better off with a -30 or a PC.

I don't understand- PC Platium or works- WHAT is better are they the same i've heard the works is for low end but enhances the top end a little, Is there any other pipe manufacture out there that makes kdx pipes?

From what I undestand, the PC is similar to the FMF Rev, but slightly more top end and slightly less bottom end.

All fine except for the 'KG' in front of the model numbers. 'KG' is not the only alpha characters you'll find on an FmF pipe. Use the numbers that designate the profile of the pipe.....as -30 is a rev pipe, -35 is a torque pipe.
Another item of note......the -30 is considerably larger than the -35. If I recall my measurements correctly, the -30 is 14" in circumference at the cone weld (where the diverging and converging cones meet..the largest diameter), the -35 is 11".
That of course should not be the reason you choose a pipe....its size.
There are reasons for both pipes for the 200. Riding areas vary from summer to winter in this area. Summer riding is more open, far less technical. Winter riding is mostly slower, technical, single track stuff. It's fun to change the personality of the 200 with the use of either the -30 or the -35 (and required jetting changes to suit...the -30 takes a richer jetset) dependent on what you plan on doing with it.
Point is, each pipe has its purpose. If it's a 200 and you ride in 3-6 gear all the time, then the -30 will likely suit you. If you ride your 200 1-3 most of the time, the -35 will likely suit you.
Certainly it's a matter of personal choice.

What about the cascade mountain pipe? I ride in the siskiyou mountains, too. Is that a different pipe? ;)

There are 3 manufacturers that I know of that make pipes for the KDX.
FMF, Pro Circuit (PC) and Bills.
A couple of friends have just gotten the Bills pipes (were running PC's) and have said they're sort of like the FMF Rev pipe but more bottom end & snappier. One of them told me not to even bother getting the Bills, as I'm not experienced enough & wouldn't like it. Not impressed with the quality control, one of the guys is on his 3rd pipe due to things like: missing welds, missing brackets & the one he settled on is missing the plate saying what pipe it is (not necessary, but sort of something you'd expect a manufacturer to make sure it existed for free advertising).
Both these guys have been riding KDX's for years and just get newer models to keep the bikes fresh. So, no, I wouldn't recommend it for a newer rider unless they're riding more open stuff. Just thought I'd throw the pipe in as it's another manufacturer.
I'm confused, but that's normal. You're saying that FMF, Pro Circuit and Bills are the only pipe manufacturers for the KDX?

Looks to me like they're made by Dyno Port. It also looks like they've got a rev & torque pipe.
Craig, which one have you got? What's the quality like? Can you do a comparison with any of the others? Wonder what other pipe manufacturers make KDX pipes - better marketing would help us hear of them earlier/easier.

SO THERE ARE OTHER PIPES OUT THERE- BUT ALL I KNOW ABOUT ISTHE KG-35 FOR A 01 220--DID IMAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE/ ALL YOU EVER SEE IS THE FMF AND PC PIPE ADVERTISED-- THEIR WAS AN ARTICAL IN DIRTRIDER MAG THAT THEY HAD TESTED A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT PIPES FOR BIKES THAT WE DON'T RIDE WHY DON'T THEY EVER TEST THINGS ON THE KDX LINE--IS THERE A MAG THAT ONLY PERTAINS TO ENDURO BIKES---I FEEL LEFT OUT . I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE THING ABOUT WHAT I RIDE AND NOT WHAT SOME MX'ER RIDES---(I'M NOT BAD MOUTHING MXING I TOO LIKE TO WATCH THEM RACE-AND DREAM) SORRY I TALK TO MUCH
I don't even know... it was on the bike when I got it, and I've never bothered to look to see if the pipe is marked. I will and I'll let you know.
Quality seems OK, and using the Dynoport silencer, it lines right up taking it off/on. OTOH, I just switched to a stock silencer last night, and it required some tweaking/modification to get it to fit. I didn't finish the tweaking actually. I had to trim about 3-4mm off of the leading end of the silencer pipe so it would slide far enough into the pipe to get the bolt holes close. I then had to elongate both bolt holes to mount the silencer. Even having done that, it pushes one of the pipe mounts into the tank, and if I don't fix that, it'll eventually rub through the tank. I figure a little tweaking/bending will take care of it, but we'll see how it goes when I do it.
I haven't seen any other pipes for the KDX (kinda new to the kdx), so I really can't offer any comparison... It makes good power, but it has other mods, so it's hard to say...
