I opted for the leasing of the equipment just for the first year because of the good deal they offered. I might buy the stuff next year after I see what's happening with the merger thing. I night venture into the PVR model too, have to see the $ situation. Thanks again for all the info and feedback.

Yes I thought about that two. But I have to upgrade my equipment (more $$$) Pay an additional monthly fee (for the Ultimmate TV suscription) and still buy the sports packages. I can't see spending over $100.00 a month to watch TV. I'd rather go ride.:)

However if I still lived in a winter state, My tune might change quickly. But in SoCal, again I'd rather go ride.

I pay $59.

About the sports package... I had that, but only wanted it for SpeedVision and the local fox network station. They added those to the "Total Choice" package, so I got rid of the others. Didn't really care to watch the same show on 20 channels, lol. Golf channel? Don't miss it, lol.

I just wanted you guys to know that I DON'T spend all my time in front of the tv like it might sound. It's for the wife, you know how that is. Right! You gotta believe me, I ride 24/7, really!:)

But I ride twice as hard as you! It's not my fault, my bike wants to go home, not me. Kinda like the horse that goes back to the barn on its own!!:) Actually it's more like 3 or 4 loops, everytime I pass you I've already made a loop, you were just lapped! :DEBIL:

Okie is right on!

ULTIMATE TV. ULTIMATE TV!!!!

This thing rocks. I got it right when it came out and TV has never been this good. You can watch 2 shows at once, record anything by pushing one button, and the best part is I spend LESS time in front of the TV because I don't watch commercials anymore!! Pause the big game when the phone rings, rewind if you missed what someone said. Well worth the money. I only pay $59 a month like Okie cause we too, wanted speedvision. Anyways, my $.02.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Dish is now active! Step away from the remote, I am in control. I don't know where to begin so let me start with this. My eyes filled with water as the Dish guy left my house. It hit me that the world was at my feet, or fingertips, and I could pounce into any televised arena with a push of a few buttons. I'm not sure but I think there's something like 4 billion channels give or take. Maybe it's closer to 100 but who's counting!
Mr. Dish and I parted ways but he told me that he had confidence in me. That I could handle the countless hours of channel surfing with no side effects. He left me with channel 150, yes, Speedvision. I sat there in awwwwwww, the vision of engines roaring and dirt flying. What a country!

I have yet to explore all the possibilities in the world of the Dish but please, don't worry about me. We all have our crosses to bare, I won't let you down. Thanks for all the input. Aloha my fellow dirt riders, may the Dish be with you.

before you buy, i was just looking into dish network, and found out that they only offer one of the fox sports channels( fsw not fsw2). i don't know if your a local sports fan, but this means you will miss the kings, clippers, and dodger games i believe ( i know there are 3 teams on each network).

i had adelphia in the past and probably will end up going back to them.

Ah, yes, the exhiliration of Dish! That will last about two weeks, and then you'll be surfing one night and come to the realization that you have 150 channels, and there's still nothing worth watching!! :D

I think I need to vote for cable. I played with a dish system at a friends house and here are my gripes: The flipability is poor, it takes a second for the next channel to show up. Local channels are extra $, I like to watch the news too. You have to mount that dish on your house and run cable on the outside, it just kinda bugs me (maybe a personal problem). You just don't get the channels you want, or as LoriKTM said there still isn't anything good on. The system I was test driving showed you which channels you didn't have which made it even clearer that nothing good was on. Cable is like 10 bucks and I already have it.

Here's what needs to happen...
-Make flipability as good as cable or better, no more pause between channels.
-Include local channels free of charge.
-Make it so I can pick which channels I want to pay for instead of packages, this is a competitive market and if a channel sucks then it should die.
-Make it cheap, at least as cheap as cable. The satellite is already up there.

I can tolerate the dish bolted to my house if these conditions are met.

Highbeam,

You must live in a different world than me. While I'm not knocking cable, but here it costs more than satalite, and there isn't the pause you mention. As for the channel line ups, our cable system does the same thing. But yes I still have to pay for local channels. but its still a few dollars cheaper than our cable co. Standard basic cable here is $39:(

There are several "total choice" packages... I have no movie channels, etc. I have UltimateTV, local channels and "family pack".

Like Lori sez... 140 channels of crap. There are maybe 10 I actually watch.

Cable here is going up to 41 clams a month, and that's if you only have one tv. They charge per tv too. For the tvs in my house, it would be around 52 bones, I pay 55 for the Dish. There isn't a problem with the pause to lock the station because I just bring up the guide page and can see everything that is on.

That total of 55 bones is with the local channels included. It really isn't that bad of a plan but it made the wife happy cause HSN is now on the tube! I did notice that the clarity of the channels is 100% better than the cable I had. One of the other pluses is all the cartoons they have, all the time. My little one likes being able to watch spongebob at 7pm and scooby doo at 7:30.

It would be nice to pick and choose the channels but that's not the case, even with cable. All in all, I am pretty happy with it. I probably wouldn't have gone to it if my cable company offered the stupid channel my wife likes! Oh well, gotta keep them happy so's I can get some extra kitchen passes :)
