Distance per tank??

Hi guys

Recently got a new KDX200 (2006 model, registerd as 2008) and am planning on doing some long distance rides soon. Ive been on 4 strokes for a while and have forgotten how 2 strokes eat juice. The bike is stock except for FMF Gnarly pipe. Im running 40:1
What distance can i expect to get out of a tank??
Ill be riding on mainly straight dirt roads, so no stopping/starting all the time.(have got more exciting places to ride but not for Friday).

Look at old threads, and there are lots of variables (gearing, jetting, type of terrain, riding style) to name a few) but in the conditions you describe you should get about 70 miles per tank. Congratulations on your new ride. John

Just needed a starting point, I live in the middle of nowere and dont fell like being stranded for a day or two.
Ill put the odo on and measure.

I also have an 06 KDX 200. I have rode a couple of dual sport rides on it and have gotten about 55-60 miles before reserve. This was somewhat easy riding and I am running stock gearing 13-47 with the FMF exhaust the airbox unpluged. 40:1. the elevation here in SE Ohio is around 500 -1000 ft. The jetting has been leaned out to a 45 pilot and a 158 main and back up slightly in the winter. There are a couple of aftermarket oversized tanks available IMS has a 3.4 gal tank and Clarke has a 3.2 gal.

I have 3.4 gal IMS tank on my 98 kdx200. On a good tame trail ride I can go 80 plus miles on a tank. But like stated already 60 to 70 miles won't be a problem.

Now thats the kind of answer i was looking for, very informative. Gives me a good idea what to expect. :cool:

I've got a 94 that only has a 3 gallon tank and after adding 3 quarts at the mid point I did 60 miles of desert and hill climbing and whoops and such without ever hitting the reserve. There were still a few inches left at the end so it was getting close, but I don't think I even needed the 3 quarts that I added. Just carry a couple of bottles of premix if you are worried.

YMMV, but on 2 occasions where I was able to drain the tank and measure, I was getting 42 mpg (yes, ~120 mi/tank). This was once in Utah (mix of dirt road, deep sand wash, singletrack and rock gardens), and another nasty singletrack & rocks in Wyoming west of Laramie, with little to no dirt roads. BTW, I have a 2000 KDX220, FMF Gnarly/TCII combo, VF3 reed cage, 13:51 gearing, 2.9gal stock tank, 42 pilot, 142 main, 40:1 ratio. Elevations were from 3000-10000'. Your best way to tell is to fill it up, ride it for ~40 miles over varying terrain, go home, drain the tank, and measure it. How far did you go / how much gas used = mileage. Jetting has the single greatest effect on mileage. Jet it spot-on, and you'll be as surprised as I was to see the result!

Cheese and rice, 120 m/tank. Thats awesome. Im going to test it this afternoon. About time i get my arse back on my bike. My guests leave after breakfast (im a game ranger), then its braaaaap all the way. :ride:

Darn right, cheese & rice! I was as surprised as you are :laugh: But, an older riding buddy said it's not unheard of to get that kind of mileage if your engine is dialed in perfectly. If folks are only getting 80-90 mi/tank, check your fuel delivery/float levels/jets, and for cryin' out loud, go easy with your right hand :whoa:

p.s. let me know what you find out with your MPG (or is it liter?) test. I'll bet you're getting better mpg's than you think ;)

50 to 55 miles before I hit reserve while riding in the mountains at a medium to fast pace, bone stock 2000 kdx200.

I have a 2003 kdx 200, vf3, knarly woods pipe, stock silencer, snorkel removed, timing bumped up, cant remember my jetting off hand, a long ways from stock though. 5500 to 10000 foot riding. I am not the most aggresive rider but I have gone over 80 miles (before I removed my odometer) and hadnt switched to reserve.
