[QUOTE="Robcolo, post: 711033, member: 28062"] Dean, springs can be "reshaped" [or in automobile terms re-arced - which is an industry unto itself] One simply forces the spring past it's deformation point in a direction opposite to which it has been stressed in use. They're never exactly as "good" as a new spring but from experience I'd say I get 90 - 95 % as much time from a set as when they were new. To renew a fork spring I stretch it around 125 - 130% of it's relaxed length - it's a trial and error thing to get the right srtetch to achieve the original specs. A simple fixture inserted into each end loads both sides of the coil so it doesn't deform . Regarding powder coating, do you know what temps [and how accurate] the process now requires? A number of years ago - when powder coating first became available - scuba divers got the great idea of powder coating the new aluminum diving tanks [paint wouldn't stick] . Many of these tanks exploded upon filling -killing & injuring quite a few people until they figured it out. The 400 deg+ heat cycle annealed the metal- removing the special heat treatment necessary for the alloy tank to contain the high pressures. KERBLAMMM !! A large number of alloy steels also are tempered [softened] in the 400 deg range -with some tempering programs even going as low as 250 deg. for treatment. I'm not familiar with which exact steels are used for our coil springs but it's something to consider. I also cringe when I read that someone has powder coated their aluminum cycle wheels. [/QUOTE]
