Off the MXSports website:

22) QUESTION: Can I change my suspension and run the stock class?

ANSWER: Yes. There are some things you can change. Different oil may be used. You may use different springs, but the springs must be for the same brand of motorcycle you are riding. If you are riding brand X the spring you use must be for brand X. You can't use a spring from a different brand. You cannot machine parts in the suspension.

The last sentence is what gets me. Do you need to run the stock piston to run the stock class?

I would think so from the sentence that says you can't use a spring from a different brand. If you couldn't use a different brand spring, then I'm pretty sure using a different piston would also be illegal. Especially since you cannot machine parts in the suspension.
