Drat. Cracked piston skirt.

Well, in spite of a clean looking piston when I pulled the cylinder, I found a crack in the skirt. There is an ever so slight gouge in the cylinder, but there is a substantial lip right where the piston comes to the top of it's travel.

So now what? Rebore and go to an oversize piston? The lip bothers more more then the gouge... You can barely even feel the gouge with a fingernail, but the lip is substantial. Is the lip normal? Or does that mean it's time for a rebore?

Yes, you should have the bore inspected and bored if necessary then replated. This is what happens when you leave a piston in service too long. It rocks in the bore which causes wear on the cylinder walls and eventually leads to the piston skirt breaking off and some major repair bills. You cought it before the price doubled, assuming the bottom end is useable.
