dry sump on the honda xr

i was wondering what year did honda start using the frame for the dry sump. i thought it was 98 on the 250 xr as pervious models had an oil cooler under the head light. or am i mistaken?? and to that matter what year and what models did they start??

i'm currently looking to buy a second xr but this time a Xr 600 94 or a xr 600 96. as my xr 250 98 is a great little bike... to which i'll never let it go.

1996 to 2004 XR250R had a wet sump motor I believe. 1995 and older was dry sump. Not too sure on the 600's though. There's a wealth of XR info on 4-strokes.com.
