I have a 1980 Yamaha DT100G. The chain that I had for it is bent probably when it popped off due to the old rear sprocket breaking. I want to know 2 things. Should I try to bend the chain back? If not are chains made for specific bikes or are they pretty generic? If I sound stupid asking these questions this is my first dirt bike and I do not know very much about what you can fix and what you have to replace. I figured I would ask to keep anything else on my bike for breaking.
The chain is "generic". You just need to know the size and number of links to order a new one. You will need a 428 size chain with 118 links, don't forget the new master link as well. No use using the old sprockets either, replace BOTH of them not just the broken one..
Ah, my bad the 428/108 is for a 125 not a 100. Leave it to the chain master to catch that. The "new master" was a trick I've started to use to get people to have a spare, too many times has my spare ended up on somebody elses chain. :)
Here is one I can never remember that might help newbes out. Do you count the master link in the size? i.e if the chain is a 102 link chain....is that with or without the master link?
