Well, it was gonna be short.
Things started of late Friday night, when I heard a loud crash, like someone was breaking a window in order to rob my house. A quick check around revealed nothing, but I remembered that I had left the garage door open, so I peeked my head in and got ready to shut the door, when I heard someone begin talking to me. :yikes: There were two kids hiding in the corner of the garage near my bike, and one of them said, "There are, like, 25 Mexicans chasing us and they want to beat us up cus we were with their girlfriends. They were shooting pelletguns at us and they ran up and hammered on your door. Can we use your phone to call my mom?" After I assured them that there was nobody outside, they left. I could see weird Kharma had arrived.
Now for the race report. The scramble had A and B courses, with the B course being less technical for Novices and Beginners. Things started off with a bad start (no way I can ride fast in a blinding bomb run and squirrley sand). During the first loop I picked off quite a few riders, and during the second loop, had my sites set on 3 more riders. I got past 2 riders and was ready to get my third, when the 2 riders I'd just passed decided they would make their bid to pass me back. I got a little out of shape and we all went down - bikes and riders piled up like a triple decker sandwich. It took a while to get the bikes and riders untangled, but I was the first to get underway. I went about 15 feet and promptly crashed again, this time augering myself upside down in a ditch. Still tired from the first melee, I contemplated sleep, but decided that it was bad racing technique. I lost quite a few positions and was too pooped to get them back.
Maybe it's sour grapes because things didnt go well, but I'd have to rate the course a C-. Way to many whoops and not enough fun stuff - I couldn't seem to get on the gas the entire event.
