I've heard you can get new 03 style cams that have the auto decompression tabs on them for the 01 wr250f to make starting easier. Is it true? Where can I find more info on this? Thanks for any help.

Yup its true, on the 250 its a direct swap with no worries. They say you can start the bike with your hand with the 03 cam. www.thumpertalk.com has a link with a step by step PDF but its a no brainer if you have ever checked and or adjusted your valves before. BTW, even though its a direct drop in you still should check the valve cleareance, most have reported no need to re shim the 250 if I recall correctly.

I did it to my 01YZ250f. Great mod, easy to do. Just don't drop the circlip into the timing chain recess. Thumpertalk has detailed info on doing this mod. Be sure you have a good quality 1/4 drive torque wrench.

DOOOOHHHH!!!!!! LOL
Yeah, I learned to secure the top end the hard way a few years ago when I dropped the whole timing chain down the hole,,,,. Now I zip tie the chain to someting before I even take the tension off. I usally pack a clean rag in the hole to.
