Hi all,
Yippee, our entry forms for the Elsinore Grand Prix arrived in the mail today. This is Elsinore, CA., just south of LA. The dates are Nov. 9 - 10, entry fees are steep ; $95 per class, yipes. We both did two events last time, me: women's on Saturday, and over 40 on Sunday, Randy did something on Saturday, but don't see any listings this year, unless just the Open class, and then the over 40's on Sunday also.
They don't accept entries postmarked prior to August 21st or after Oct 11th. Entries are limited.
You can get information, and I assume an entry form at GFI's phone no: (909) 341-8002.
Plus its great fun just to watch the events you're not in, and see all the vintage mc's, sidehack races etc.
We're planning on going down, be fun to have a group!

Yey!! Mick and I will both be there. I've been looking forward to this ever since Mick made me sit down and watch Any Given Sunday after all the talk about it up at Oregon. Should be an awesome weekend. And it would be a whole lot more fun if we did get a group of people down there.

Belinda!! We should make you watch it again.... cuz' it's "On Any Sunday."

<grin>

Yah, Susan and I are stoked about going again. This will be her second time and my third. Her first time was her FIFTH ride on her old Honda XR200R. Her biggest fear was whether or not she could get it started it again if she crashed or stalled!

While I was *fairly* comfortable that she could make it around okay - I was *extremely* jazzed to actually see her come around through Main Street the first time. <GRIN> And even more stoked when she came around the second time, jamming on the gas and yelling, "yippeeeeee...!!"

The race is a stone gas. I'm going to call up the Elsinore folks tomorrow and pester them with my usual 20 questions. I'll post some details when I know some more.

Buddy and Mini are *probably* going. Pegasus is *thinking* about it.
Man, this is going to be so much fun!!

Cheers, eh! - RandyB

Sounds like fun!!! I hadn't given it much thought, but it could be done!! Ktmboy - I will check out the other forum and get the scoop. I would love to see everyone again from the Oregon gang and meet some new DRN'ers from the Left Coast.

Belinda - I didn't catch the "Any Given Sunday" thing because I haven't seen "On Any Sunday" yet - LOL! You are so funny! I've been told I should watch this movie too.

I plan on racing on Saturday and spectating on Sunday.

OK OK, Just don't tell Mick I got the name of the movie wrong. I'll never hear the end of it. ;)

Thumbs, I think a get together on Saturday night is definately called for, especially if there is going to be a large crew of us down there. I'm racing on Saturday in the womens novice class so I'll be ready to party. Mick is racing on Sunday in the 4 stroke class but that won't stop him. (We're aussies after all and always up for a party!!) Works out well cause we will be able to see the other race.

Can't wait!! I'm off to recruit a few more people to come. :)

Directions to all who read this forum:

1) Rent/watch the movie, "On Any Sunday."
2) Get so darn excited you can hardly stand it.
3) Come join us and either race or watch the Elsinore Grand Prix

This will be The Ant's and my second time doing it... it's a total kick in the pants!
Sorry about the following .... er... *rather* lengthly post, but it's got good info for those going... and plenty of incentive for those on the bubble. (grin)

Susan (The Ant) and I, Mini and Buddy, have already made our hotel reservations. It's clean, nice, priced *very* reasonable, and it is in a great location for supporting/accessing the race.

Hotel Info:

Lake Elsinore Travel Inn (909) 245-8998
31620 Casino Road
Lake Elsinore, CA

We have a room with two beds for $55.00 (plus tax) a night. (Just about the best price we could find.) We are coming in Friday afternoon, 11/8 and will be staying Friday, Saturday, Sunday night, and then leaving out early Monday morning for the drive back to Portland, OR. We have stayed here twice before for previous GPs and it is in a *great* location! It's about a 1/2 mile from the back half of the course which has the best viewing. Works great for finishing the last race(s) on Sunday, zipping back to the motel, showering, and then going to watch the Harvey Mushman 100 (the 100-miler pro race).

Here's the map on www.mapquest.com

Our Race Info:

Randy and Susan are entering the following classes:
Saturday:
Susan: Women's Nov (9am) [BBR200]
Randy: Open Nov (2pm) KTM 400 MXC]
Sunday:
Susan: +50 Beg (11am)
Randy: +40 Nov (11am) [these two classes run in the same heat at 11am]

We really like running these classes in this order as it allows us enough time (on Saturday) to support the other person and run around and take pictures.
And on Sunday we actually get to race in the same heat... which is way cool!

The course is very wide, plenty of room for passing, and has very good sightlines. This also means very few surprises and little chance for bottlenecks w/ piles of riders. We are planning on driving around and walking the course on Friday evening. Once you do that, there are no real surprises. Heats run back-tback throughout the day, ~ 1 hour in length. Course is ~ 7 miles long and is a mix of pavement (downtonw MAIN STREET!!), dirt roads, fairly open MX-style area, lot's of higher speed GP type corners/gullies/dips, some more pavement, more GP course, the famous ridge trail from the movie (roughly the size of a jeep trail) down through some back neighborhood streets, hit Main Street again, and then repeat until they make you stop and get the heck off the course! major, way-fun!

And for any first-time lady-racers... On only her FIFTH ride ever on a dirt bike, Susan rode the Elsinore GP back in 1997, did just fine and had a ball.

They also now have the entry form on Goat Breker's Eyewear web site:

Cheers! - Randy Burress/Susan Post
