The vehicle needs to be scanned to see what codes were infact picked up, then you can go from there. Bring it to someone with a scanner for your make vehicle, or the dealer. The dealer will probably be more expensive to deal with, but your check engine light will be nothing new to them, and they will have the appropriate equipment to check and take care of your problem.
