bsmith,
See that "t" in direcway? Takes a while to train folks that it shouldn't be there if you have @direcway.com in your email address. Lot of folks will call me saying their mail is bouncing back.... it's usually the "t". ;)

Anyway, have you tried tuning the system yet? Some decent gains in speed if you do. Some good info here. Depending on the site, turning proxy on or off helps sometimes. Congrats man.

I got it (Sat) a few months ago. Pretty decent if there are no other broadband choices in your area. The only thing bad is the upload speed.. for me (doing sites) it hurts a little.

Just found out that wireless will be available here by the end of March... they are putting the transmitter on a water tower that's 1/2 from my house with a clear line of sight :) . That means 1.5 mb up & down with no latency! Like having a full T-1 !

You went from Sat. as being the only BB choice to wireless as an option? Seems funny they skipped cable, DSL, and then dropped wireless on you. Lucky you no doubt. :moon:

Wireless is a lot easier to deploy (and not by the phone company!) ... I even considered getting a t-1 and becoming a local WISP (wireless isp) for my neighborhood, it's not that difficult. Score 50 within a (5 mile radius) or so users and the costs would be covered.

Going to get the wireless network in the house finished soon, haven't had time to mess with it... pretty cool to be able to take the notebook out on the deck to work during the summer :) A cool substitiution for droping a cat 5 cable out the window, lol.

I'd stay with Sat if I didn't have to upload all the time, no doubt. Gotta tell ya, I'm liking the thought of 1.5 up... I'll be able to upload an entire large website in less than a minute.

Absolutely! Every couple of weeks I upload 20+ meg files to the home office. Thankfully it’s FTP which helps some, but it’s still painful. Start upload at bedtime and hope it's done in the morning. :silly:

I’m getting ready to install a network here to share the connection. Thought about wireless but I have those 2.4 GHz phones and I understand that can be a bad thing. I think I may go ahead and install the Ethernet now and possibly add a wireless AP later.

Yep….the laptop on the deck. SUCKS to work at home doesn’t it? :yeehaw:

Thanks bscott, I have noticed I keep adding that "T" in there

I did some speed tests last night and was getting bnetween 400 and up to 612k download speeds. Which I think is great.

I will say, probably the reason I got Direcway was from the threads a few months back :thumb: DRN kept me informed!!

Okie-When people bark about the costs, you can now inform them, that I (very much a cheapskate) am forking out $49 a month in order to come in here a little more often :worship: In return, I just need you to open up the flame forum again, I miss Rich and Jaybird throwing down the gauntlet on some unsuspecting soul :p

Do you still use a modem for upstream? I thought that the satellite was now a two-way street..?

Mark,
The Direcway 2-way system is, but the upload speed is very "modem like" at approximately 56k. This is still faster than my 28.8k connection that I had prior to Direcway.
