Do not buy the knock off bikes! Look for a used name brand bike. For your weight and size maybe a KDX220 might suit you well. Or for a 4 stroke a CRF230 would be a good starter bike for woods and trails. Also if you could find a used honda XR250, they are reliable bikes and can be found used with still much life left in them. All of these bikes should easily be found for 2 grand used.

No i would bet you would get bored with a 125 tt-r or crf. Even the 150Fs are a bit too slow for your size. First of all you need to know what you can and can not handle , i suggest test riding one of your friends bikes to get a feel for the power you expect out of a bike. Im not sure what the economy for dirtbikes is around your area but i know that i could easily find one of the suggested bikes for $2000.
Craigs list is a good place to start, local ads, news papers etc. Good Luck

You would enjoy riding the TTR 125 for all of one month. Then you would get bored. They don't have much for power, and are heavy for their size.

You can easily find a 1996-2000 Honda XR 250 or 200 for 1500 (at least you can in US dollars...not sure what the exchange is right now).

The XR is going to be bulletproof. Just change the oil regularly, take care of sprocket and chain, and it will last you a very long time.

That's gonna be a wild ride to try learning on.

And you can do better than an '84 for that price on an XR...just keep looking...

Cad $ is like US $ for now but its always cheaper in US.

Thanks,

TT-R250 will be a great begginers bike. It should last you awhile so long as you do the proper basic maintenance. The price sounds about right too.

By the way, I started out with a CR250 as my first bike and although it had more power than i could even begin to use, I progressed quickly and began to build confidence. So don't be afraid of a bike for how much power it has, treat it with respect and it will respect you back.

At 5'10 155lbs. Hmmmm if you can grab a 1996 Honda XR250 if you are just going to be doing some play riding. If you think in time you will be getting more serious. Go grab a 1992 Kawasaki KX250. You will love the Powerband of the 1992 Kawasaki KX250 as it isn't abrupt and is broad.

Just my 2 Pennies.
