I have come to the point of the year where I have to fix or buy new. My dealer looked over my bike today and said that I'm looking at around 1800$(cdn) to fix my bike. But he then offered to take my bike in on trade for 3000$. Which should I do fix and have my '99 like new and all done up, or upgrade to a 2002 kx125(250?). As I do not know what to do and if I go ahead and buy a 2002 they are sponsering me for 2002 with 35% off on everything in stock. I'm clueless?.

$1800(canadian monies) and my kawi dealer is the cheapest in the province and I don't think I wanna rebuild my motor myself since I've never rebuilt the bottom end. My whole motor of getting done need new cylinder seals, plastic, bars, tires, chain, sprockets and a bunch of other stuff.

I would do it myself or atleast try to and ask the dealer as many ?'s or a mechanic as you can about something you don't know how to do.

Look in to doing this to say a few buck. Back in 1983 I bought a 1981 RM 125 that the guy lost the drain plug on the tranny. Well after a few laps he found out he made a big mistake. He tried to get away with buying a new plug and fill the tranny with oil and crossed his fingers that the tranny was ok, Well it droppedd a gear and tore the living dickens out of the tranny. I new how he was with maintaining the bike and I offer him 400.00 for the bike. I got a quote from the Suzuki dealer for every tranny part except the bolts and nuts was like 1100.00 for all the parts and labor. I thought it over and I pulled the motor out of the frame. pulled the jug and piston off. Took it in to the dealer and said redo the tranny. I got a call saying the mainshaft was ok to reuse and the clutch basket and plates are fine. I did the whole thing for under 700.
00 That was with new bottom bearings and seals also. Granted in 2001 it would cost so much more for parts and labor. I figured it was around 125.00 I saved by pulling the motor out.
