Flywheel weight mechanical eng ?

A bolt on flywheel weight is secured and threaded on to where the flywheel nut usually is. With this being said, how accurate is the weight of the bolton flywheel weight? Where as to a weld on flywheel weight, the added weight is actually on the flywheel on the outside of it not like the bolt on model that is threaded onto the crank and is against the flywheel weight.

Are you asking what is the differance between the weld on and the thread on weights..as far as affect on tractabl power? Like if you had a 10oz weld on one and a 10 oz thread on one, would it produce the same power delivery? I think the weld on would have more of a gyroscoptic effect..and maybe mess with the handling of the bike a little. Other than that I would think they are mostly the same.

The weld on fly wheel weights are more effective as far as maintaining forward momentum under a hard pull. Like climbing a hill. The weight being placed further out on the spinning flywheel helps keep the crank spinning more effectively that if the weight is located inward on the flywheel.
