frame paint question

I rode my new '02 yz 250 before I got frame guards and have rubbed the paint off to where the metal shows (2 rides and 1 race). Now I have frame guards that I will install. Should I paint over the bare spots before I install the guards to prevent rust? What kind of paint should I use? Does Yamaha sell touch-up paint?

Thanks,

Hi-Per Sports!

I bought the blue paint, and clear coat from HiPer Sports for around $6 a can. It looks like enough to do the area several times. I havent tore my bike down yet, but will be doing it next month for sure.
I used the soft finishing pad, (scouring pad type) from Home Depot to get the rust off, and to clean the frame to a bare metal. Its smooth, and ready for painting. I also wore the paint off before I put my GYT-R guards on, so I will finish them before putting them back on.
Its a bummer that its such a thin coat of paint. Even where I have plastic ties, Im seeing the paint wear. I may just buy some clear sticky plastic from Factory Effex to protect the frame after I paint.

Good Luck!
