Frame paint?

I just purchased a 2007 kx 250 and it has some frame paint wear where the previous owners boots rubbed up against the frame and rubbed some of the paint off. I plan on getting frame guards but i wanted to repaint that area to keep it from rusting under the frame guards.

Any ideas where i could find some of the same frame paint that was originally used?

I think PJ-1 still makes the silver paint. Also, check out color-rite. I got a can of PJ-1 with my KX250.

Or maybe just paint on your frame guards! Either spray or roll on bedliner "paint" is available at most auto parts stores. Herculiner is good tough stuff and Duplicolor has a decent spray on version as well.

Also, if you put some frame guards on after painting, it won't rub off any more. You may want want to put some clear numberplate backround cut to fit above the guards wear your boots still can rub the paint.

If you plan to re-paint the frame, i sugest powdercoating it. Yes this does cost a fair bit more then paint but it is far more durable and will last 10 times longer.

Definitely more durable but a lot more work! Powercoating would pretty much mean a complete tear down of the bike.

Yeah, I'm not looking to tear down the whole bike, just going to repaint with colorite and then frame guard it afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestions.

BTW does anyone know what kind of paint comes on the pro taper handlebars??

I have some rubbing off where my clutch braquet has come loose and started to slip, I ordered a new clamp and bolts but the paint has warn off the handlebars and I'm afraid it's not going to grip as well when the new clamp is installed.
