I have a 2001 yz250 and the sides of the frame are scratched up and missing paint. Does any one know what color I could get from the store that would be a good match.

Go to the local yamy dealer and they can order you some PJ-1 color match spray paint( do yourself a favor and mask of anything that does'nt need painted) first wash clean and sand with 400-600 grit paper!!

400-600?? Your crazy.....
800-1000, Minimum. Unless your going for that "scratchy,,,, I dont know what the hell Im doing" Look.

On aluminum, You can get away with a scuff pad even... Use actual wet/dry sand paper if you want to feather edge the surrounding paint to match. If your just doing a quick touch-up, hit it lightly with a scuff pad. Use some dish soap and hot water with the scuff pad, focus on cleaning the area as much as "sanding". Several light coats at first..3-4. Follow up with a thick "final" coat.... And you should be good to go!

i have a 2001 YZ250 and heres how i touched it up.
Go to the bike shop and get a can of PJ-1 yamaha blue and also get a fine paint brush kinda like the kind that comes with touch up paint. Then get a cap from a laundry detergent jug and spray the paint into it until you have about 2mm to 4mm high of paint in the bottom of the cup/cap.
Now you notice that it is really thin and runny so let it sit in the cup and stir it every 5 minutes or so until it thinkens nicly (about 20-30 minutes) Now your ready to brush it to the frame with no runs and a nice coat with no masking tape. As you work with it your mixture in the cup might start to get to thick to work with all you gotta do is spray a small amount of paint into the cup and stir to thin it back up some. If it gets to thin again from adding more paint let it sit again for a few to let the thinner in the paint start to dry out some.when your done its a awsome match i have pictures of mine completed if you like to see Email me at Modifiedmotoman@msn.com
