Front Disk Guard

Hi, I just noticed that my front disk guard where it attaches to the aluminum near the fork broke. It is the piece where the bottom screw attaches and do you think it should be TIG'D or just leave the plastic thing off? I would of just replaced it until I realized the whole aluminum piece is part of the bottom fork... Thanks. :(

Well, a lot of bikes don't have a disk guard at all so I would say that the guard isn't essential.

If you are going to have the fork tube welded I would recommend tearing it apart so that the internal parts didn't get overheated in the process. I would also ask the welder to not get carried away with the heat because if the tube warps the fork will be destroyed.

Before you do anything, price a new lower fork tube from Service Honda or the like. You may find out that a new part isn't that expensive, which makes taking the risk of welding the other one not worth it.

If you would replace it anyway, what's the risk of welding? (other than what you might have to pay the welder)

I have never run the front guard and tend to ride in horrible conditions. Rocky, rutted, single track and some mx. Never had any damage to the front disc or brake yet.

When my son raced a CR we removed it also mainly because it tended to collect mud during mud races. We never bent a disk on an MX track with it missing
