Fuel Fragrance - Does it work and how?

I have seen recently a number of products that claim to put a scent to your exhaust by putting a mixture that goes into your fuel.

Now, since the smells range from Root Beer to Pina Colada,  how can they do this without adding some sort of sugar?  (Sugar is bad for engines.)

Do these "additives" cause harmful deposits? (other than the smell :) ) And do they affect performance?

AND,  would it be possible to make your own smell enhancers by using say a flavor concentrate for snowcones (without the sugar water added)?

This for some reason interests me,  especially for my stinky smelling 4-strokes!  Not that it really matters.....

I bought some of the grape fragrance from Performax. I just wanted to try it. I can't help you with the ingredients, but I can tell you that it works! In concentrate form I can still smell it through two sealed zip lock bags.

How does is smell out your exhaust? Does the smell outweigh the 2-Stroke oil? Any ill effects?

I've noticed no ill effects. yes the smell is in my case grapey;).
You do get some odd looks from people you are riding with as they try to figure out what they are smelling, and from where.

You know I want to get this just for the funny looks and being able to smell like a carnival everytime I ride another lap but are we sure there are no bad effects to the motor?

I don't want to toast my valves with burnt cotten candy

So Okie how does the blueberry smell? Is this stuff pretty strong? I can't imagine performax making anything available to the public that can lead to a future lawsuit or complaints.

I actually do not manufacture it myself. The company that developed this stuff is very well respected in the Kart industry. It was first developed as a top-end lubricant for alcohol burning Kart engines. He assured me that there is no grape extracts or pina colada mixes involved ;) . All the scents are derived from synthetic ingredients. Some combinations are easier to make smell like something and some are harder. The art of chemestry I guess :worship: . I have been running this stuff in my bikes for over a year now and everything seems to be fine. My favorites are Grape, Cherry, Bananna and Rootbeer. From the feed back I have received it seems that Strawberry and Watermelon are the weakest......

Grape and Cherry Bomb are both very fragrant. I don't think I have been around the Root Beer yet but I know someone who has a bottle. Great stuff if you ask me  DirtWeek was a veritable buffet of smells this past year.

As an addition to what PapaKeith said:
Wear rubber gloves even when moving the stuff from one place to another, DONT spill it, keep it inside TWO ziplock bags ....and your garage will still smell nice :yeehaw:

I think the two stroke oil kind of adds a bit of a twang to it, but you can for sure smell it. I have ran bannana, grape, and chocolate and the chocolate was the worst. I dont even think performax has it on there site. Right now i have a jug of cherry mixed up, we will see what it smells like in Reno!

The art of chemestry I guess .

i think it should be OK to run this stuff, perfums are made from esters with different hydrocarbons attached. Synthetic premix is ester based so they should be compatible!

I am kinda partial to MTBE smell now.

dont you just love that smell, i am trying to get away from this computer and back into the lab. i might even look into testing some new additives in my fuel, the kinda stuff that makes your eyes water! :thumb:

THis is terrible. It is like encouraging people to inhale exhaust.
Did anyone forget that exhaust is still a deadly poison.
