20:1 or 32:1 i belive i found on a web site that these bikes ran 20:1 but that seems like alot of oil for that engine when 80's-125's run 32:1 and 250+ run 40:1.....anyone wanna give there 2 cents?

thanks,
aaron

I ran mine 40:1 with almost 2 race seasons and no top end rebuild! I sold the bike and it continued another 4 years @ 40:1 until the rings wore out - the bike probably had 4,000 miles on it!!! The KDX always amazes me.

Keep in mind, the companies do very little, if any research on oil products - they take the safe road and go with older info. regarding oil products, as the products improve the companies still say 32:1. I think that is a waste of your money.

Well, I would agree with enduro_nut. Just use a quality synthetic and run around 40:1 to 32:1. I always thought 20:1 sounded rather paranoid! I used to run and air cooled RM 125 around 32:1 I think.

thanks guys. i think i will run 32:1 thats still plenty of oil for its engine, only thing worse is seeing all your oil spit out your silencer....gotta hate that. piston and cyclinder looks great. last owner said to put new rings in it, sooner then later future. ill run 5-10 hours with 32:1 and then try new rings, its not getting used every weekend just when ever i get an itch for dirt over street bikes. any other info on these bikes would be great, its old as dirt but runs great and still cures the itch that a $5,000 would and it only cost 250 bucks......can u say deal

speaking of the ring gap, I had the same bike, and back then, the owners manual actually had a ton of information in it. The ring gap, cylinder wear, clutch spring length and a bunch of other stuff was in it, so if the guy you bought it from can find it, it's well worth having. I just sold mine last week and handed over the manual, otherwise I'd post the specs. Wish my '04 manual was as detailed.

Good luck,
Mike.

It has been a few years--say 20--since I had a KDX-175, but I always ran two stroke mineral (ground) oil at 32 to 1 with no, no, never problems. Good bike to have fun on. Cheers John
