hi, finally got around to putting me mates motor back together. am i going to be better off putting gasket goo between the two crank cases aswell as the gasket?
ta.
Depends on what brand motorcycle. Yamaha does not manufacture a gasket for their bikes. It is intended for a machine fit. So if it is a yamaha use the goo. Honda on the other hand it is not a machined fit and you must use a gasket for the tolerance.
it is an 01 rm 250, i just finished putting the motor back together and just used the dry gasket, it diddnt look like it had anything there before. now ill just wait and see. :ride:
If the manufacturer used a gasket, you MUST use a gasket. The gasket moves the crank cases further apart and affects crankshaft endplay.
Putting gasket goo on the gasket is acceptable. Some gaskets come with little silicone beads pre-applied on problematic areas like corners. Just be careful not to put so much on that it starts squeezing out and into oil passages.
